8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘Survivor’!” During last week’s ninth episode history was made when Dan Rengering‘s hidden immunity idol was nullified by Carl’s special power. In addition, Nick stole Alison’s vote and used it against the Goliaths to help send home Dan. The Davids now feel emboldened heading back to camp as they’ve evened the numbers between the two warring camps. Only 10 players remain on the island. Which two will be voted out tonight?
8:01 p.m. — After tribal the Davids were excited about their successful use of the two advantages in order to even out the numbers, but Angelina was looking for answers as to why and how she got two votes cast against her. Her takeaway was that the rest of the Goliaths proved they’re willing to throw each other under the bus and that in order to make it to the end she’d have to be that way, too.
8:03 p.m. — Once again, Davie and Nick woke up earlier than everyone else in search of an idol that they expected to be placed back in the game after Dan had used his. Sure enough Nick found the clue to it that directed him to sneak out of camp at night in order to find the actual idol.
8:04 p.m. — Before that could happen the players gathered for their next reward challenge. In two teams of five they raced on a rope bridge in the water to assemble a rung ladder. First team to finish earned a picnic with salads, wraps and wine. The teams were: Davie, Carl, Angelina, Nick and Kara in purple and Christian, Alison, Gabby, Alec and Mike in orange.
8:07 p.m. — After an early lead was established by Alec for orange, Alison struggled which gave purple a chance to pass them up and eventually finish the bridge first. Nick started on the ladder, but after completing one toss couldn’t get a second before Alec caught up to them and eventually won for the orange team! Once again Carl was the big loser here who continued his streak of a lack of reward wins for the season. But he was clued in to Alec’s prowess at challenges, making him think that perhaps it was time Alec needed to be voted out.
8:14 p.m. — At the reward challenge everyone made it clear that Alec was the star of the challenge and his work wasn’t stopping there. He made sure to appeal to Gabby and Christian as much as he could, rekindling his alliance with them in the hopes that they can work together. Alison and Mike played along as well, but all strategy stopped once they discovered letters from home in the picnic basket. For Christian the letter was a reminder that he’d need to make bold moves in order to win and that in the end it will all be worth it.
8:17 p.m. — Back at camp Carl was also emotional, but over his continued lack of food. After a short breakdown he probed Angelina and Kara with the idea of going against Alec as the next big threat in the game. Kara was surprised that anyone wanted to discuss that with her knowing how close she is with Alec. Not surprisingly Kara informed Alec immediately which put him in a position to strive to win the next immunity as extra protection. Unfortunately he (as well as Alison) ate too much at the reward and spent most of the afternoon throwing up. Looks like there may have been an upside to Carl losing?!
8:20 pm. — Later that night Nick went out in search of the idol while Davie kept watch back at camp. He was able to find the idol easily, earning the third for the group of Davids and second active one in the game in addition to Christian’s. It’s astounding how well the Davids have managed to use teamwork in order to maximize their ability to not only obtain, but to also use the many advantages in the game. I don’t think we’ve really seen an alliance work in unison as much as them.
8:25 p.m. — The next day the final ten competed for immunity by balancing on narrow perches with only a small handle to hold behind their head. Last one standing would earn immunity and safety, but before the challenge started Jeff offered anyone who wanted to forego the challenge the opportunity to drink beer and feast on nachos. The only players to choose nachos were Angelina, Carl and Nick and so it was down to the other seven for immunity. Carl! Finally getting food!
8:27 p.m. — Mike was the first to admit to Jeff that he was feeling uncomfortable right before he completely fell from the perch, followed by a slip and disqualification from Davie. After 35 minutes, five were still left and Angelina was toasting with Carl “to the future,” another sign that she’d be willing to work with the Davids to take out Alec. Though everyone on the sidelines thought Kara was looking solid (and she was) she stepped off and eliminated herself.
8:30 p.m. — After about an hour and a half Alison also dropped, leaving just Gabby, Christian and Alec vying for immunity. Two hours in Gabby was crying while contorting her body all over the perch, knowing that this was the one challenge that she could possibly win. Alec was determined to stay up there, making it clear to the others that he wasn’t going to step off until he won. Gabby gave in to the pain and dropped, leaving just Christian to take Alec out. At the three hour mark Christian decided to “tell a story” which actually amounted to him just talking for the next two hours straight while Alec struggled with the pain and the added annoyance. Eventually Alec pleaded to Christian, saying that he needs it and Christian doesn’t, but like Gabby Christian said that this is how chance to win which prompted Alec to step off and give immunity to his opponent leaving him vulnerable to Carl and Angelina’s targeting!
8:40 p.m. — Back at camp Carl was working hard, speaking with everyone, to make it a unanimous vote against Alec. Carl’s “godfather” attitude rubbed Gabby the wrong way especially since she didn’t agree with Kara being informed of the plan. The situation created a riff between Gabby and Carl which meant that Christian had to manage Gabby’s emotional distress while also agreeing with her that Carl was becoming a sort of liability for the Davids.
8:43 p.m. — Because he lost immunity Alec was forced to spend the rest of the day figuring out a way to stay in the game. His in-road was obviously Carl, the player that was becoming so cocky with his power that a blindside of him was primed. Alec got Alison, Kara and Mike to all agree, but in order to make it work they’d need Davids. Alec approached Christian who admitted that it was already something on his mind and added that the two of them need each other in the game in order to diffuse their separate threat levels.
8:49 p.m. — At tribal, Christian reiterated the importance to him of winning immunity tonight, saying that back home he would constantly please people but that he needed to be selfish now to achieve things he wanted for himself. Alec also had time to speak about how vulnerable he feels and Carl defended his choice to sit the challenge out in order to eat food for the first time, denying that it meant he feels confident enough to not need immunity. Angelina spoke up about the tribal lines disintegrating, but the topic seemed to make everyone else uncomfortable as they prepared to vote.
8:53 p.m. — The votes were clearly coming down to Carl vs. Alec with the two guys swapping votes for one another and the rest of them remaining hidden until Jeff read them aloud. Without an immunity idol played, the votes were: Alec, Carl, Alec, Alec, Alec, Alec, Alec. Looks like it was unanimous and the Davids convinced the rest of them that Alec was too big of a threat!
8:57 p.m. — Back at camp, everyone was in agreement that Alec had to go, but it was the Davids with the biggest smile on their faces now that they held the majority over the Goliaths. Alison broke down in a moment with Christian on the beach over her regret that she wasn’t able to save Alec and knowing that she would be the next target. She also regretted not making the move to work with the Davids that she had planned on making earlier in the season, but didn’t.
8:59 p.m. — For the second reward challenge of the night they were divided into two teams of four, leaving one to sit out with no chance of winning the prize of an afternoon on a speedboat with chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad and cheesecake. The player left out after the schoolyard pick was Christian, the orange team was Carl, Davie, Kara and Mike and the purple team was Nick, Alison, Gabby and Angelina.
9:01 p.m. — In the challenge the teams raced up a ladder to dive from high up into the water where they had to release two lines of buoys in order to get balls that they’d jump and shoot into baskets. The orange team was first to get their buoys raised, but for the most part both teams remained even. Nick was the first player to get a basket from either team, but Davie and Carl managed to get all five of their balls in quick succession, earning Carl his first reward of the season!
9:11 p.m. — On the speedboat reward Kara was offered the chance to rekindle her bond with Carl and Davie with Mike also willing to do some sucking up. Carl continued to act like the godfather, telling Kara and Mike that it must be Alison next and that the only hiccup in that plan will be Gabby. That bit of information was key for Kara who was not going to be okay with letting another Goliath be eliminated by her hand.
9:14 p.m. — Back at camp, Gabby confided in Christian that they have to make a move against Carl in order to prove to the jury that they aren’t following his orders and are instead in control of their own game. While Carl was away at reward, she confessed to Alison that the next vote would have to be a blindside against Carl without telling Nick, Carl or Davie.
9:16 p.m. — Once he was reunited with the other Davids (plus Angelina) Carl made it clear that they wouldn’t need to do any scrambling and the next vote would be Alison. He also wanted to ultimately replace Gabby with Angelina because of Gabby’s closeness with Alison so he told Christian to not tell Gabby about it, but that just secured for Christian that Carl was the one that needed to go next. Meanwhile Mike had made up his mind to turn on Alison with the Davids, but later pow-wowed with Christian in a plan to work with him, Kara, Alison and Gabby against Carl.
9:24 p.m. — Christian eventually told Gabby of the plan to blindside her in the vote against Alison which made her feel better about her move against Carl, freeing her up from any hesitation she had. Meanwhile, ahead of the upcoming challenge, Angelina was preparing to negotiate with Jeff because they were running out of rice and knew she’d have to convince Jeff to give them more in a trade of some of their goods.
9:26 p.m. — And so, Angelina asked Jeff if they’d be able to offer up their fishing gear, their cook sets and their comfort prizes. in order to get more rice from him. But his counter was that someone would have to sacrifice their shot at immunity in order to make the swap, to which Angelina stepped up to the plate in order to secure the rice. She saw that as her chance to add to her own story and resume for her finale speech. Ok girl LOL.
9:30 p.m. — And then… the challenge. For immunity the players (minus sacrifice and negotiating queen Angelina) had to dizzy themselves by spinning around a post before crossing a balance beam and then solving a word puzzle. Davie managed the beam first but was quickly followed by everyone else as he started to assemble the word puzzle. Carl was the first to find a word, choosing “perceptions” but that was wrong. Alison was next to figure it out, but Davie beat her to the punch and spelled “perspectives” first to win immunity!
9:39 p.m. — After the challenge Angelina was in good spirits following her sacrifice for the rice which she thought also earned her some trust with her new alliance. Mike continued to tell that group that he’d be voting Alison out with them, but in reality he was in the middle of what was probably going to come down to a 5-4 vote between her and Carl. Mike’s concern was that his best strategic move would be to take out Alison (I’m not sure I follow why!), but Carl annoys him so personally he wanted to vote against him.
9:48 p.m. — At the second tribal council of the night Jeff wanted to know whether the unanimous vote at the previous tribal was a sign that tribal lines were down. Alison and Kara were eager to make it clear that they sacrificed Alec in order to prove that they’re out there to play and were willing to work with the Davids in order to make moves. Angelina, of course, was in still in high spirits and seemed super confident that she was going to be in the winning side at the end of this tribal. Alison on the other hand expressed some discomfort, considering that she was likely the target.
9:53 p.m. — Once again no one decided to play an idol and so Jeff read the votes, presumably with Mike’s being the one that will decide who is eliminated: Alison, Alison, Carl, Carl, Alison, Alison, Carl, Carl, Carl. That’s it! Mike secured the move against the Davids and once again we’re set with an even number of Davids and Goliaths! Nick looked the most shocked so I’m wondering how this is going to affect his relationship with Christian (I thought they were one of the closest pairs in the game!).
